Alaria Starfire is the young, beautiful Queen of the Hollow Earth.
Alaria came to power after a generational civil war. As well as the war being a battle between Imperial families it was also a battle of philosophies between those supporting the historic, patriarchal society and those wanting a more equal power structure. The battle of Alaria's generation was being waged with her two brothers. Alaria entered the fray when her younger brother was killed by her older brother. She was losing the war but the arrival of Nathanial Hurst and Dr Fabian Kloner in their mole machine changed the fate of the Hollow Earth. The intrepid duo tipped the balance with a daring plan. Nathanial and Alaria took the imperial city while Dr Fabian Kloner and General Hakkal disbaled the enemy airship fleet with an ingenious device.
Since the war ended Alaria tried to rule a peaceful empire but her dynamic and headstrong leadership was let down by a lack of experience. She was also hurt when Nathanial Hurst spurned her love and went back to Earth. She became obsessed with using the Crystal of Eternity to get to Earth and meet Nathanial again. She took the dangerous and ancient artefact from its containment and had the artificers build a device to transport her to Earth. She also let a matriarchal power base form in her empire, further turning key forces against her.
Ultimately, Alaria was betrayed by Artificer Maundrin (who wanted the Crystal of Eternity to master the darkness of beyond) and General Hakkal (who was jealous of her love for Nathanial). General Hakkal was able to secure key military forces due to the matriarchal movement.
When the forces lead by General Hakkal made their move on the Imperial Palace Alaria used her experimental apparatus to escape to Earth triggering the events in the serials The Crystal of Eternity! and The Battle for the Hollow Earth!
As the Gentlemen's Gentlemen of Lord Chatham, Pemberton sets of on an adventure to retread the voyage of Phileas Fog, but soon murder is afoot and dark secrets are abound as Lord Chatham himself murders those who know the secret location of Lemuria! Lord Chatham escapes and Pemberton is dismayed at the betrayal of his Gentleman!
!!Guest Star
Dr Fabian Kloner
The crystal-based technology of the Hollow Earth is maintained by the Artificer Guild, a powerful group of scientists who understand the ancient technology. They hold great power in the Hollow Earth. The Grand Artificer is a prestigious office, and represents the Guild's liaison to the current ruler of the Empire. In many cases, the Grand Artificer is also the Guild Master or the effective Guild Master with the actual Guild Master holding little power.
Grand Artificer Maundrin rose to power during the generational war, and was given the joint position of Grand Artificer and Guild Master by Alaria Starfire shortly after her inauguration. This proved to be a mistake, as Maundrin soon became a snake in her rather naive initial period of rule. He aided her in her desire to use The Crystal of Eternity to break down the barriers between dimensions, as Dr Fabian Kloner's Mole Machine had done previously. He did not have her desires in mind though. Maundrin had become obsessed with the ancient religions, and was set on communicating with the Darkness Beyond the Stars and ruling over an eternal darkness. As his research in this area continued in secret, his once youthful and beautiful visage was replaced with the silver masque he now constantly wears. Key in this was The Crystal of Eternity, which was known to allow communication with these unfathomable entities, the forces of which once plagued the Hollow Earth before the Empire was formed (hence the Crystals containment).
Once Maundrin had prepared his forces and had secured the majority of the military through promising General Hakkal Alaria herself when the battle was won, he made his move. Despite a lightning success, Alaria escaped through her experimental device with The Crystal of Eternity, and events conspired to bring her back with Dr Fabian Kloner and Nathanial Hurst and two other heroes of Earth. They foiled Maundrin's plan, and after a personal duel with Nathanial Hurst he was forced to flee (these events took place in the serials The Crystal of Eternity! and The Battle for the Hollow Earth!)
The current location of Artificer Maundrin is unknown.

Colonely Geoffry Ashcroft is a war hero from the Great War and numerous other smaller conflicts. He wears his medals with pride at every social occassion he gets to go to. His life is now largely his war stories. He is also the loving father of Charlie Ashcroft, his only child.
Despite Charlie being the 'son' he never had, he is too stuck in his ways to see it and constantly bemoans her adventurous ways.

One of the creations of the Crystal-based technology of the Hollow Earth are the Battle Golems, tough robots with great strength and rapid fire blasters. The most powerful Battle Golems are the oldest ones, built at a time when the ancient crytal technology was better understood. Devestator X-5 is one of the most ancient Battle Golems still working, and he has served in some of the Hollow Earth's greatest battles even before the generational civil war. His age and experience often saw him take his place as the de-facto General of the Battle Golem forces.
Devestator X-5's final battle took place in the Imperial Palace in a single combat between himself and All American Hero from Earth Zack Brannigan, Master of Luck and Death. The battle was a close and hard faught, coming to a conclusion in a rapidly descending lift. Ultimately, Zack Brannigan defeated Devestator X-5. This titanic struggle took place in the serial The Battle for the Hollow Earth!.
Whether the ancient Battle Golem will be able to be revived is unkown at this time.
Dimitri Petrov is a member of The League of Gentlemen's Gentlemen and the Gentleman to renowned doctor, scientist and biologist Talia Artimova. He is known to be a very organised and precise invididual, as well as an expert in numerous unarmed combat styles and as such an excellent bodyguard. He has been Talia's Gentleman for five years.
He is respected in the League and is believed to be a strong supporter of the view that Pemberton should be removed from the League for not only losing two of his charges but actually killing one.
He expressed this view directly to Pemberton during the opening of Dr Fabion Kloner Greatest Show on Earth show.

General Hakkal was the experienced General of the Imperial Army of the Hollow Earth. He held this position due to rising up the ranks during the generational Civil War and helping Alaria Starfire's younger brother, and when he died Alaria herself. General Hakkal was a pivotal part of the risky military action which brought and end to the generational war when he lead the Air Ship fleet in order to deploy Dr Fabion Kloner's device in the right position to disable the enemy fleet while the Princess and Nathanial Hurst infiltated the Imperial Palace.
He worked with Alaria as Supreme General until he realised that Alaria was not going to forget her love for Nathanial Hurst, and her goals of equality were failing and the Imperial system was slowly becoming matriarchal under Alaria's rule. He joined forces with Artificer Maundrin and lead a large proportion of the army in revolt against Alaria.
General Hakkal was captured by Nathanial Hurst and the heroes from Earth when they returned to in the serial The Battle for the Hollow Earth! At this time he remains in the Imperial Prison.

Harmony Parker is the beautiful debutante, society girl and long suffering girl friend of Zack Brannigan. Like Zack she was born into old money, and lives a life of great privilege in the state of Texas. Her goal in life is to settle down with Zack and for him to take his rightful place which would ultimately involve them running large parts of the Brannigan and Parker financial estates and investments.
She is constantly exasperated by the fact this never seems to work out and instead she can't even have a holiday without their airship being taken over by blood sucking vampires.

Lord Henry Chatham is an incredibly rich English gentleman with lands in England and Scotland and significant investments in the US. He also held significant power in politics due to his various connections.
He is married to the beautiful Lady Penelope Chatham.
All this was brought to and end due to his obsession with Lemuria, an ancient kingdom now long lost. He became obsessed with finding it and set of on a journey around the world, disguised as an charity endeavour of great heroism, to circumvent the world in 80 days. This was an excuse to find and kill all researchers into Lemuria, take their knowledge and kill them. This was discovered by Pemberton, who was Chatham's Gentleman on the trip. Pemberton and Dr Fabion Kloner stopped Lord Chatham but the cad escaped. These events took place in Around the World in 80 Deaths.
Lord Catham was later encountered leading a The Thule Society expedition in Iraq as they attempted to secure The Crystal of Eternity from a chamber in the mountains as the Crystal was rumoured to have destroyed Lemuria.
Lord Catham was last seen falling into a bottomless pit, energy from the Crystal of Eternity arcing around him, after a second battle with Pemberton. This event took place in The Crystal of Eternity!

!!The Battle in the Sky
The heroes blaze into Bagdad in an acquired Thule Society truck and make their way to their hotel to rendezvous with Imperial Princess Alaria Starfire the Crystal of Eternity in their possession. As they are bustling into the hotel the streets erupt in panic as golden energy arcs from an ever growing sphere of energy in the Iraq sky. The energy sphere explodes and out of it comes an azure blue airship from the Hollow Earth! It circles above the city, energy and smoke arcing out of its engines.
As the heroes meet up with Alaria in the hotel full of panicking people a shimmering energy field surrounds the crystal and it vanishes!
The heroes look to the sky to find the airship rising into the air in an attempt to make an escape on its damaged, experimental engines. Desperate to stop the Crystal of Eternity falling into the wrong hands the heroes run to their plane on the Euphrates river and take off in pursuit. It is then they realise that Charlie Ashcroft isn't on the plane! Zack pulls the last ounce of power from the plane's engines, dodges energy fire from the airship and crashes it into the hanger deck at the rear of the airship, taking off both wings and skidding along the deck. Bursting from the wreckage the heroes engage with the minimal Battle Golem defences and make their way to the bridge.
The heroes get to the bridge, the airship creaking and shaking with the stress, just as it enters the energy sphere and breaks the dimensional barrier!
The scene cuts to the Imperial Palace, and Grand Artificer Maundrin marching into the map room, his robes a dark black, his pale face hidden in a hood, and his staff clanging on the floor with his steps. He steps onto the observation disk and rises into the air, presses a series of buttons on a control unit on his arm, and a map of the Hollow Earth appears as a hologram below – red and blue marks indicating an airship battle to the west. The rebel forces are fighting a loosing battle. A giant hologram of General Hakkal appears over the top of the map, and Maundrin is updated on the on-going success of the air war, it is then that Hakkal picks up the return of the airship sent to Earth. Maundrin commands him to secure the crystal at all costs.
The airship blasts through the dimensional barrier and back to the Hollow Earth, and directly into a large airship battle high in the sky above a massive lake. The heroes urgently speak to Captain Darant who commands the airship and persuade him that he's best working with them via the combined presence of two heroes of the Hollow Earth, the Imperial Princess, and last, but by no means least, the amazing rapport of Zack Brannigan! They make their way into the belly of the beast, the Command Airship of General Hakkal with the Captain's assistance, as the rebel fleet is slowly surrounded.
As the battle rages the heroes get to the bridge under the cover with Captain Darant and surprise the occupied General Hakkal and quickly secure the bridge with some handy technological brilliance from Dr Kloner. They begin to sow doubt into Maundrin's fleet by attacking their own vessels with the command airships guns, and having Princess Alaria call for complete surrender. A wholesale surrender of Maundrin's fleet fails and the battle breaks with the rebellion fleet and some of Maundrin's forces (that defected) fleeing to safety.
Generak Hakkal and the command airship is captured!
!!The Battle for the Empire
The rebel fleet flees to the mountains and flies low among the towering edifices. Momentarily safe the plans for freeing the Imperial Empire from Maundrin's clutches are discussed. A desperate plan is hatched to use a supply vessel from the northern mines to get the heroes into the Imperial City at which time they can contact the resistance there. The attack will focus on bringing down the energy shielding and defence arrays of the imperial city, attacking Grand Artificer Maundrin himself and luring away some of the enemy fleet with some of the rebel forces, the rest attacking the city when the defences are down. Alaria and Nathanial find a moment to speak, and Alaria remarks she, once again, finds herself reliant on him and his friends for the safety of her Empire.
The heroes enter the city and through the resistance and the knowledge of Dr Kloner and Nathanial Hurst make their way into the Imperial Palace as the resistance makes a series of attacks within the city. Dr Kloner and Pemberton head down to the defence control room to de-activate the defences, while Nathanial and Zack make their way to the map room and Grand Artificer Maundrin.
Nathanial and Zack get to the grand doors of the map room and are about too open them when a lift opens far down the corridor to the rear, and out of it steps Devestator-X5 the old and battered Battle Golem General. Zack turns and runs at the ancient Battle Golem and Nathanial enters the chamber to face Grand Articifer Maundrin. The battles rage with Nathanial and Maundrin fighting with staff and sword both above the map, on the floating disk, and within the map. Zack manages to back the Battle Golem into the lift, locking himself in a desperate battle in an enclosed space! Just when things couldn't get worse, the lift mechanisms are destroyed in the fight and the lift drops down the shaft as the battle ensues!
Meanwhile, Dr Kloner and Pemberton arrive at the control room deep in the bowels of the city and secure it. Dr Kloner immediately gets to work bringing down the defences and speaks to Alaria to inform her she can begin her attack. As the battle unfolds, forces move in to retake the control room, and Pemberton holds them off in the narrow corridors with impeccable cool, while Dr Kloner aids the battle by using the cities defences against the enemy air forces and also confusing the battle via the command control systems.
Ultimately, Devestator-X5 is stopped after a close battle and the lift halted from its descent. The air battle, with the aid of the cities defences goes well, and while the fierce battle between Grand Artificer Maundrin and Nathanial hadn't reached a conclusion, Maundrin, realising a wider defeat was imminent, looked hatefully into Nathanial's eyes, quickly tapped on his wrist controls and teleported away.
The Hollow Earth was saved...again!

!!The Greates Show on Earth!
The great Dr Fabian Kloner is unveiling his new show, The Greatest Show on Earth!, to an audience of the rich and famous for charity, and to gain publicity for the event and his goal to communicate the message of science. It is a show of science and wonder, showing tomorrow today. The press are assembled, the theatre complex on the Thames is lit up and the cameras are rolling as people walk down the red carpet.
Charlie Ashcroft, Nathanial Hurst and Zack Brannigan each take their turn down the red carpet as the cameras whirl and the flashbulbs light up the vicinity. They are interviewed by reporters on the way in, particularly Charlie and Nathanial, who are known British establishment figures and all round adventurers. Charlie is quizzed on when she's going to marry one of the many eligible bachelors in London, and Nathanial is quizzed about the second trip to The Hollow Earth which found nothing but rock, leading people to believe his trip (along with Dr Kloner) was a fake.
As they are interviewed, and the flashbulbs erupt, both Charlie and Nathanial have flashbacks to previous adventures.
Charlie is taken back to a remote Swiss Chateau, explosions of light coming from the north tower, as gun shots echo over the wind and snow. Charlie battles her way to the top of the tower to finally be confronted with the woman who contracted the killer that killed her lover and who is also in possession of one of the series of ancient scrolls she is seeking. In a moment of cold-blooded revenge, she kills the woman before she can learn any reason why, and takes the scroll.
Nathanial Hurst is taken back to his time in The Hollow Earth, he is on an airship approaching the grand capital city, all part of a grand plan to launch a surgical strike against the Queen's enemies, while her fleet battles her enemies fleet far away, the plan being for an invention by Dr Kloner to disable the enemy fleet. They receive a message from General Hakkal who is leading the grand airship battle, saying that the battle does not go well, but they should get into position to use the device, after that it's up to Nathanial and Alaria. As the airship gets closer to the city, Alaria tells Nathanial she has put all faith into his all or nothing strategy, against all advice, but if they win, she wants him to stay with her and rule her empire together? The question remains hanging in the air, as Nathanial, the Queen and her troops jump out of the airship on gliding wings to attack the city.
In the theatre complex the guests are enjoying the pre-show party, complete with dinner suits, elegant dresses, a big band and Melody Chase a relatively famous New York singer. During this time the various heroes mingle and speak to each and numerous other guests. Nathanial and Zack re-unite and Nathanial can't resist trying some smooth moves on Zack's girlfriend, the gorgeous Harmony Parker. This is hindered slightly when he is slapped by Melody Chase, due to him loving and leaving her in an expensive New York Hotel a few months ago. Pemberton meets another of the Gentlemen's Gentlemen in the form of Dimitri Petrov, the Gentlemen of the eminent scientist Talia Artamova. He is informed that many of the league think he is dangerous and should have been removed from the league for killing his charge in Tibet. Dr Kloner meets with Talia Artimova before the show, and discuss the boundaries of science, ultimately disagreeing on the future of science, and whether it progresses faster through conflict or not. Despite this disagreement, Dr Kloner accepts her open invitation to visit her in the future to see her work. Zack meets Maximilian Drax, the young, successful aviation entrepreneur and they discuss their mutual love of aircraft, they also agree to meet in the future. Charlie Ashcroft spends most of the time talking to a young, female and hungry for success reporter. Ultimately, Dr Kloner does his pre-show speech, and all are lead into the grand, circular auditorium.
Pemberton also has a flashback while speaking to Dimitri, as his mind goes back to the fateful events in Tibet, during the competition of Luck and Death, a competition an obscure group of monks hold to choose their champion, the Master of Luck and Death (currently Zack Brannigan). He is chasing a man down corridors under the temple, until he finally corners Prince Hassem Al Naib. The Prince spits out words of hate and venom, promising that the cult of Zo Kath Ra will rise, and establish the grand empire of old, and that the desert will run with the blood of those that oppose them. Pemberton, informing the Prince that 'if you cheat, you die' and kills his injured opponent and ex-Gentlemen charge.
The show is a grand affair, involving numerous spectacles of science, including audience participation. The show is a raving success and the audience is amazed, and Dr Kloner guarantees he'll be the talk of the city, the papers, radio and newsreels over the next few days.
As the show comes to an end and the crowd are clapping there is a spark of golden energy above Dr Kloner's apparatus, which turns into multiple arcs of energy running to and down his equipment. Initially the crowd clap louder, ready for a final wonder, but the energy gets wilder and more violent, actually hitting a few people and killing one (the reporter Charlie was talking to). This causes panic and the audience stampedes out of the theatre as the energy rages. In a moments silence, just as everyone but the heroes has left, the energy stops, then in one final busts deposits an unconscious, beautiful, dark haired female amongst Dr Kloner's equipment: Alara Starfire, Queen of the Hollow Earth.
!!Attack of the Battle Golems
Dr Kloner, Pemberton, Nathanial, Charlie and Zack retire to another part of Dr Kloner's complex and make sure that Alaria is not seriously injured, they also discover a small device powered by the crystalline technology of The Hollow Earth. Dr Kloner, through experience and his scientific knowledge, manages to figure out that the device is a communications and recording device. They also discover a holographic recording, from Alaria's perspective, of the Queen escaping the clutches of Battle Golems lead by General Hakkal, and escaping with some one foot long green crystal in a blaze of energy. The recording device also has a holographic image of this crystal.
While doing this Pemberton deals with arrival of the police, and also deals with the body of the unfortunate individual that was killed by Dr Kloner's experiment as part of his duty to his Gentlemen (the reporter).
Ultimately the Queen comes around and relates her tale of betrayal. She informs Nathanial and the rest that after Nathanial and Dr Kloner helped her become the Queen of the predominant Empire in The Hollow Earth (after a generational war), she started bringing peace and prosperity to The Hollow Earth. She was haunted by her love for Nathanial though, and ultimately she made the fatal mistake of taking the ancient Crystal of Eternity from it's containment in an attempt to have the Artificers Guild create a device to transport her between her dimension and Nathanial's, as she believed the drilling vehicle didn't find a world in the centre of the Earth, but somehow broke through dimension barriers while drilling. She was betrayed though, by General Hakkal and Grand Artificer Maundrin, who launched a surprise attack on the palace to control the Empire and retrieve the Crystal of Eternity. It is said the Crystal can be used to communicate with creatures of incomprehensible design and intelligence beyond time and space, and Maundrin wanted that power. She was forced to escape through her experimental device or to not let the Crystal fall into the hands of her enemies. The trouble was the Crystal did not seem to make it through with her.
Dr Kloner using readings he took from Alaria's arrival begins to construct a device to locate the Crystal on Earth, in the belief it must have arrived in a different location.
Meanwhile, Charlie recognises the Crystal from one of the two ancient scrolls she has recovered. She goes home and does some researching. She finds that one of her scrolls tells a story about a remarkably similar Crystal being found in the ancient, some say mythical, land of Lemuria. It was found by the ancient people, and was the focus of a Lemurian cult worshipping ancient creatures of darkness, the scroll even postulated that it may have been the power within the Crystal that resulted in ancient Lemuria's destruction! It would appear the Crystal of Eternity didn't just arrive in a different place, but also a different time!
While this was happening Zack arranged for Harmony Parker to travel back to the USA, as she had once again been pulled into one of his dangerous adventures, a constant point of conflict between them. Nathanial and Alaria also restarted their physical relationship.
Dr Kloner was forced to keep feeding his machine more and more power to extend it's range as no similar energy signature could be found close by. After taking enough power to shut down parts of London, the closest Dr Kloner could get was the Middle East, namely Iraq, a country the British had recently vacated, and also the site of ancient Mesopotamia. It was then the machine picked up a similar energy signature almost on top of them!
It would appear six Battle Golems had managed to follow the Queen through!
Once the Battle Golems were destroyed, the team made arrangements through the League of Gentlemen's Gentlemen to commandeer a plane to fly to Iraq. They fly to Iraq, landing on the Euphrates river. They instantly start to get the lay of the land, and begin to organise flights to scan for the Crystal using Dr Kloner's portable scanner. They find that the country is chaos due to the exit of the British, one particular problem being 'illegal' expeditions to raid the country for ancient Mesopotamia antiquities.
Ultimately, Zack, Pemberton and Dr Kloner find a Nazi expedition in the mountains, at the end of a long, deep valley, and the energy reading seems to be coming from within one of the mountains. They fly over the expedition and then turn around to pick up the rest of the team, in order to investigate the expedition more closely.
!!The Chamber of Eternity
The heroes scouted ahead into the valley to get a closer look at the Nazi expedition, but luck soon turned against them and a pitched battle took place. Their truck broke down, Nazi's peppered them with gun fire and just when things couldn't get worse a tank came over the hill heading towards Zack and a Nazi officer in a desperate fight. Heroism, ingenuity, impeccable cool and the appliance of science won out and they drove into the camp as Nazi soldiers, using Dr Kloner's Arian demeanour and looks to pull of the scam. The team enter the mountain, along with the crate Dr Kloner has brought with him from the damaged truck.
Inside the mountain the heroes find a vast chamber, and an ancient technological device in which the Crystal of Eternity is encased, obviously the temple of some ancient cult that has taken up communing with the ancient evils the crystal communicates with. It is then it's discovered that the expedition is headed up by Thule Society and the man in charge is none other than Lord Chatham, who betrayed Pemberton, and as such they have a score to settle.
A switch is pulled, the crystal spins, energy arcs and the heroes engage in a pitch battle to get across the chasm in the middle of the chamber to stop whatever nefarious creature from the darkness between the stars it is trying to contact. Nathanial pins the Nazi troops down on the bridge. The chasm is leapt across. Dr Kloner unveils what is in the crate, a remote control portable giro-copter and sends it off across the chasm to retrieve the crystal. Chaos results. Nathanial gives in to his dark heart and chases a handful of troopers around the crystal before they realise he should be running from them.
In the meantime, a pitched battle takes place between Pemberton and Chatham, the end result being Pemberton being the only thing between Chatham and the depths of the 'bottomless' chasm. Pemberton informs Chatham that 'if you cheat, you die' and lets him fall to his fate.
It all ends in mad scramble for the crystal, as the darkness beyond the stars speaks to Nathanial and has him try and secure the crystal. The scramble involves all the heroes and the giro-copter of Dr Kloner, with the crystal being rescued just before it tips over the edge of the chasm.
The heroes run out of the chamber as it explodes and the insides of the mountain collapse....
